Dear mouse,
UPDATE: I sincerely appreciate the prompt attention of Carlos Ople to the issue that I raised in this blog. As far this blog is concerned, the issue is closed.
He removed the offensive word and I take it as a sincere apology for its use. He could have stood pat in his entry but he chose to do what is appropriate. I do not take it as winning on my part. There is no winner and no loser in argumentation. There are only people worthy of respect for being humble enough to consider the feelings of other people.
This is his note:
FIFTH TYPE OF BLOGGER
EDIT: In light of recent events, I’ve decided to remove the 5th label since it has offended people in the blogging community. I could have used a better word to communicate what I was trying to say, and for that I humbly apologize to anyone who was slighted, insulted, or felt like that they were looked down on.
Let me leave the Ted Failon case for a while although there was a development about the identification of the wound entry by the forensic people who were hired by the defense team of Ted Failon. Masaya ito.
I am just slighted by this PATAY GUTOM LABELLING no matter if they are really free loaders or not.
How do you say to someone if he is a patay gutom blogger? First you categorize the bloggers to types of bloggers.
pics are originally from Lee.
I am calm.

Then convince the readers that they are influential bloggers with little ahems complete with chest thumping.
I am still calm.

Downplay the traffic stats of some types of bloggers because I will tell you, their stats are not very impressive to be deserve the word influential. How could you become influential when your traffic stats a week is just a fraction of Reyna Elena’s traffic a day?
Then call the other types PATAY GUTOM BLOGGERS because they are what they termed as freeloaders.
A sumusobra kayo. At least she is honest to admit that she did not get a higher education.
What is this PATAY GUTOM BLOGGERS LABEL?
This is in relation to the competition in the “racket” of inviting bloggers in media events.
So you think that the bloogers-attendees only get free food which some self-proclaimed media event organizers bring home by “truck” leaving other people who attended the events hungry?
Some get paid. Some denied they get a single cent but they won’t tell you that they get other compensation in the form of credentials to attend media gathering. Some get priorities to freebies. What is amusing is that these critics of poverty bloggers were observed to bring members of the family to these events so they can get more freebies. If they can only convince the sponsors that their dogs are also bloggers, they could have done it. Patay gutom din?
And I thought the freebies are barya-barya. I was Wrong.
According to my source, when there are only a few bloggers who go to event, the gift check amounts as much as 5,000 per blogger. If you attended two in a month, that is 20,000.
The corporations sponsoring events want more bloggers. The marketing people of the corporations think that even without them blogging after the event, they can promote the product by word of mouth.
So the more bloggers there are, the better.
But the anti-poverty and media events groupies did not want this to happen. Their freebies are reduced and they find themselves in the company of what they call PATAY GUTOM BLOGGERS.
I am reminded of some partygoers from hell who cart the extra food home even other attendees are still hungry.
We, bloggers in the United States do not know about this “racket”. And I personally do not care. Sa hirap ng buhay, whatever freebies that people get should be appreciated for others. But to call them PATAY GUTOM, that is something else and blogging it in the guise of advise from a marketing expert is I found a little unethical.
When Reyna was criticized of his blog, he was called hungry CPA …translation PATAY GUTOM NA CPA.
I do not know elitist bloggers are fond of critizing bloggers on their economic status.
I admit, even without forensic evidence, that I say something about the size of the brain of my adversaries instead of calling them bobo but not patay gutom. Iba yon. Mine is a challenge for reasoning ability; the latter was looking down on people who are not a level
of the economic status of the labeler.
Will someone educate me why we still have bigots among us?
The Ca t

I’ve never attended a blogger meeting or whatever it’s called. :p I’ll let you know when I have. hehe.
Just curious, sino pong “adversaries” nyo?
reyvr,
blatant display that one is a recipient of freebies=patay gutom blogger? ganun ba? eh pano yung mga discreet freeloaders? kung meron man.
I never thought of labelling bloggers as such. So those who are not freeloaders are considered above the others??? WT!
In real life, I never used the word PATAY GUTOM because it is utterly offensive. I prefer to use bobo just like you. Pero patay gutom?? Na-ah.
Hmpt.
I just love that cat icon you use!
hayyyy.. i miss the old days :(
mari,
di pa nga discreet minsan. may hakot pa rin sila. I see this as a threat to the ruling elite bloggers.
silver,
it is really offensive especially if it is coming from people who project themselves to be in an upper strata of economic class.
tawagin na nila kami ni reyna na patay gutom na CPA, we would not mind, Babatuhin namin sila ngsirlon steaks na nakatusok sa stick. hahaha
tin,
whenever i used those graphics, I am impressing to the readers that i am outrage amid my effort to be civil and polite.
i like them too.
ate sienna,
tayo nga ang unang naglagay ng group blog a walang moderation. we showed them how to be responsible for our blogs.
it is a pity that we become busy as members got married, have kids and or relocated.
we are not against revenue generation in our blogs or for other bloggers but for people to feel as if they are superior than others, is not totally acceptable and you know me, pag ganiyan, nagiging Darna ako, Pero ngayon Iron man na lang para naman high tetch, o di va.
LOL Sirloin steaks…hahha..
To undermine someone’s socioeconomic status is a BLATANT INSULT.
Kairita. Hmpt!
Patay gutom is such a strong word. People who used this word is mal-educated. We don’t have any right to use such a demeaning word to anyone. Tsk Tsk Tsk.
hehehehe.. oo nga, ano???
ressie,
o there are bloggers who are bigots. wala namang bigote.
CAT!
nanakawin ko nang buo ang entry mo! hahaha! tamad akong mag-blog dahil ubos ang lakas ko sa travel and I really like this one na sinulat mo. kelangan mabasa to nang mga reyna readers!
batuhin mo man ako, nanakawin ko sya without your permission! hahaha
I read the entry. Shocking at least for one barriotic punk like me.
At least this Patay Gutom can go to London on a weekend and have coffe in Paris. Patay Gutom ako ngayon because mahal na ang Euro and can’t afford na ang lola to have coffee at the Eiffel Tower, pinagtiisan ang Eiffel Tower sa Las Vegas. Hahaha!
When will these kapwa mo Pinoy stop demeaning Pinoys?!
Hi Cat!
If you were offended in any way because of the term used in the article, “4 types of Bloggers”, then let me offer my sincere apologies.
There seems to be this misconception that when I mentioned PGB I was referring to our fellow bloggers who just started. That is not the case. I am merely giving advice to fellow marketers to be smart about how they spend their money, especially since a lot of them do not understand new media. The article, as I pointed out a few times in several blogs and plurks, is really meant to be taken from the perspective of the business owner who wants to tap the potential of digital marketing.
I hope this clarifies things. Again, if the post offended you, kindly accept my apologies.
All the best,
Carlo
may English translation or counterpart ba ang “patay gutom”?
Then again, ako pag gutom, patay nakapalibot saken (kasi mainit ulo ko)… and in time, am sure, mamamatay din ako :D
bebe,
lee,
bawal kasi sa akin ang beef kaya yong beef steak ay limited to one or two a week lang.sabi ng doctor, eat more chicken. hindi ko naman mahabol yong chicken na nag cross ng road.
Cat,
I’m in the middle of nowhere! hahaha! Marksville, Louisiana. Dito ang conference na attend ko hahaha! Leche! Kakatuwa ang City na to hahaha! But the place is uber nice, kaso ang paligid, barrio! tawa ako nang tawa hahaha
I don’t know about you Cat. What that Carlo Ople and his friends had just agreed on with that stupid and politically incorrect PATAY GUTOM just proves what Pinoys in America continues to say. Alam mo yon? THAT PINOYS ARE THE WORST RACIST IN THE WORLD.
Say mo?
Carlo,
I can understand it is about marketing but the patay gutom was used to describe the people who start a blog just to be able to attend the blogging events.
Sa Tagalog, kinarir na nila yong pag-attend.
I can understand that you are advising the pr people from the sponsoring corporations to be careful in selecting media events coordinators who bring bloggers. Don’t i know that?
What I can’t understand is, my source told me that the attendees are not required to blog about the events so there is no need for them to be influential.
The corporations may just need warm bodies to make their events look more well attended.
whether they are freeloaders or not, in marketing we do not use derogatory terms to refer one market demographic.
I am not the only one offended. Our entire group who started blogging for the sake of blogging and for posterity but who believe that the people who like to benefit from such activities should be spared from stereotyping is not comfortable with the term patay gutom.
delish,
in a polite world and professional organizations that deal with promotions and therefore give influence to people, they are bound by ethics not to offend sensibilities of the market they target.
hilfiger products suffered in sales when the rumor that hilfiger uttered derogatory words to the black people circulated.
Hi Cat!
It really depends on the purpose of the event. I personally believe that in order to maximize New Media for marketers, then you really have to make sure that you do not invite just for the sake of having warm bodies in the event. That is a waste of resources especially if you’re trying to really raise awareness for a particular product or brand.
Kindly extend my apologies as well to any group that was offended. I really had no intent to malign, insult, or offend the blogging community with the post. I think that there is a more deep rooted problem here and that my post just triggered it to explode, but then again that’s another topic all together.
If it is okay with you, I would like to move on with this issue since I think it’s been dragging on for quite a while already. Thank you for your understanding and rest assured I will avoid using similar terms in succeeding posts.
More power to you, your blog, and your readers!
All the best,
Carlo
carlo,
are the bloggers who are invited and are given freebies mandated to blog about the events?
will a blog with only a handful of visitors create awareness?
when there is an apology, there should be a removal of the offensive term.
without removal, the apology is nothing.
Yup, I’m already removing the word :) I’m just thinking of a better way to communicate it.
bebe,
get a certificate of DISAPPEARANCE and then make lakwatsa and take photos.
i was expecting your call noong nag-away-away na doon sa powerpoint presentation mo.
nakakaintindi ba sila ng mission and vision? hehehe did you use derogatory words to market your ideas?
bebe,
i am going back to sleep. it’s one o clock here.
naalimpungatan lang ako.
what is the offensive word? what is this about?
Cat, you’re right. Economic status is never a good basis to assess a person’s quality. We should be reminded that most elite philosophers in history are “economically challenged”. Such insult can only come from a person who thinks money could buy himself a working brain complete with the function of making sense.
gabbyd,
patay gutom is not a politically-correct word to describe materially deprived people. the entry suggests marginalization.
Cat,
Kagigizing ko lang hahaha! takbo ako here to get the latest.
Anyway, I have no problem with the rest of what was written other than the stupidest Patay Gutom label. Nuff said with that politically incorrect word.
Half a day, grabe, we have to break up at lunch meet up at para kamo kaming nasa gyera. Buti na lang level headed particles came into the picture at nang mellow ang mga tiga “importanteng sitio” hahaha
I left them kahapon siklaban pa sila dahil nga I have to travel. Eto ako, prepare na naman sa another one another hahaha
And i forgot my fone charger! leche!
carlo,
i do not impose. but if i have to take your apology seriously, there should be some rectification,
i appreciate your prompt response on the issue however.
it is not personal, i know your background. that is one thing I do before I discuss issues. i see to it that we are on the same wavelength.
i just took the blog as some sort of marginalization of people described with a word that applies to underclass.
tsaka yun freebies na yun e one time lang compare sa blogpost non blogger n umaattend dun.kasi habang buhay yun blog andun ung article n un
so ibig bang sabihin, mas importante ang sinasabi ng blogger na malaki ang readership (MRB) compared sa blogger na konti lang readership (KRB)? ang opinion ba ng blogger na sampu lang ang readers ay walang kwenta kumpara sa opinion ng blogger na sampung libo ang readers ? how do we even determine gaano karami dapat ang readership before we can say that a blogger is a MRB?
excuse me, pero if i am a marketer, a good opinion is desirable even if make by a MRB or a KRB. but then again, i am not a marketer. i am just a KKRB.
honey,
that’s how they market their online marketing concepts to the advertisers. blogosphere is a big money-making business that groups are trying to capture their own market share.
this is nothing but a publicity stunt of carlo ople to increase traffic.
he better pipe down. apologies are not enough though
elmot,
you said it. hahaha
I could be considered as a PGB. Yes, I am a PGB, a patay gutom na blogger, so what?
