Bloggers’ Choice Award Nominees-Tinimbang Ka, Kulang na Kulang

Dear mouse,
cathcath
As I have written a blog ago, boredom makes people do stupid things. I am not bored because I do not have anything to do. I have my long to-do-list not to count the number of books lying on my bed waiting to be read.

So what is this stupid thing that I did? I went bloghopping. I clicked the links of the blogs that were sent to me by one blogger requesting me to cast my vote for a something-something choice awards.

After reading a few and became a little pissed for clicking some links where ads popped up despite the fact that I repeatedly press the return icon, I decided to go to criteria for judging.

I am wondering whether the organizing committees whoever is in charge of screening nominees bother to visit the blog nominees. They set criteria which gives 80 per cent for the content and design and usability, 20 per cent. The last one was for functional and stress-free navigation…

Talking about this criterion, I found the ff:
1. one nominee has no profile…it has the word profile but it’s empty. The photo is also empty except for a death wish to whoever click it. the name sounds foreign. You can not determine whether she is a Filipino blogger which is one of the must eligibility…no archives…only links to different blogs that she claimed she authors…in reality, the other blogs which are free hosted have no content but links to her other blogs. The blogger does not tell much about herself . Grrr.
2. there is one blog which has just one entry shown only in one page. …no archives..no recent posts that you can’t check whether it meets the criteria of having started at least four months before April 2008. Content? My foot.
3. There is one blogspot blog which has only entry for the month of September and it contains a link to its other website which is not qualified to become a nominee since it is not owned by a person but an organization. Hey are you reading the nominated blogs?. The blogspot does not qualify since it just started August which entry has nothing to do with the blog title nor its theme. . The September entry is merely to refer to the other website. Talking about contents. Tseh. You wasted my time.
4. Talking about eligibility, one blog has one month archive, April 2008 and the next entry was September just to acknowledge and promote the blog awards. Hello.
5. Oh yeah, there are blogs which started three years ago but:
5.1 one of them has its latest update in March. Bloggers’ Choice when she rarely blogs. Gosh. Rolleyes.
5.2 there are at least four bloggers whose blogs were updated once or twice a month. How do I know? Just look at their archives where in one month of a year, they have only one entry. Some of these entries were merely to greet themselves happy birthday. Sheesh.
5.3 the bloggers’ choice award is a special awardfor popularity. How can one blog with only 2,000 hits in one year nominated in such category. Wala na bang manonominate?

5.4 I thought blogs should be personal…and not a kind of website where activities of an organization such as seminar, updates and news are the contents of the blogs. Essplain that to the bloggers who have time to bloghop. Enggggg.

5.5 There is one blog that merely reviews movies. Puwede na pasar but I still feel comfortable pitting this kind of blog to politics/socio-cultural and personal blogs that provide general information.

There are few good blogs that I read who are already established and have proven themselves in the community of blogs. Being chosen this year as an awardee after having been selected from among the run-of-the mill types of blogs is like an adult winning over 13 year olds in ice cream eating contest.

I don’t blame Reyna Elena for refusing to join the contest.

And there are those bloggers who shamelessly ask for your vote for their blog that is not even worth reading. Humrph.

I am not against blogging awards. But make it credible by screening nominees. Nakakahiya.

  6. Bakit sa Palanca Awards, hindi naman lahat ng categories “required” magkaroon ng winner. Ang alam ko, may category this year na walang napiling winner (Dulang Ganap ang Haba). Bakit? Eh walang umabot sa panlasa ng mga hurado.

seriously, mam Cath, I read my entry several times and I never mentioned any of their names. I even mentioned “most” and The PBA topic is just 1/4 of my entry, how can they have misconstrued what I have written? It is so clear in my blog:

“Just last year when the Philippine Blog Awards was held, most of the winners associated with the organizers won,”

last year ang tinutukoy ko hindi ngayon haha! it was posted on sep 7, 2008 even before the blog awards were held.

so why are these awardees insisting that they are the ones i’m talking about? I did not even mentioned any names. it really puzzles me. They even go in to trouble of saying “T***INAMO” and “Pangit Kasi Sya”. Why are they so pissed?

Please tell me if I am stupid and doesn’t know what I have written or these people are just guilty. Understanding where they are coming from is totally beyond me.

“may isa pang anumalya. ang news and media category, sadya bang wala ang mga blogger na galing sa traditional or old media. may bias ba against sa mga taga old media na nag cross over sa new media? may mga active kasi sa blog circle ng blog awards na ito na nag declare ng disgust nila sa old media eh. old or new, the traditional media bloggers are bloggers din. why give out an award para sa kategorya na iyan kung di naman saklaw ang mga dapat na naryan? asan ang nanalo last year na pcij, its not as if they stopped blogging? just go over to mlq3′s site or pcij’s site and there’s a LONG list of journalist bloggers there. buti na lang journalist pa rin ang nanalo sa category, kundi isang malaking farce naman po iyun. imagine, nominated sa blog na iyan si mar roxas? oooooops… keynote speaker nga pala si mr future president nila na nakahuntahan nila sa isang exlusive bloggers meet mar event. dyan pa lang mejo, iba na ang amoy. okay okay ang logic ay blogger din si mar, pero yun na nga bloggers din ang pcij and the rest of the journalist bloggers sa blogosphere. why not them? you can debate with me about this and reason out na walang malisya ang mar roxas angle… pero you can’t blame anyone who finds this really really fishy. ipinost nyo pa pics ng blogger meet na yun sa mga site nyo e.”
