Dear mouse,
I have been conducting this study since October 2005. The last follow-up study was in July, 2006.
The main objective of the study is to show the trends by showing the changes since the last time it was conducted in July, 2006.
Unlike, in the previous studies however when making it to the top one hundred indicates popularity, the trend that I am able to produce shows how majority of bloggers are able to make their websites get unique hits thru the applications of knowledge of search engine optimization techniques. While the objective of linking in the past is to be able to access a favorite blog, these days, it is to get a “halo” effect of the page ranking of a higher-ranked blog.
Methodology:
I still made use of the descriptive method of research instead of the questionnaire/survey type. One hundred top blogs were selected from the PINOY TOP BLOGS which currently displays 33 pages of 1,578 registered members. It has grown from the previous 1,470 in July, 2006. The choice was not random.
The study is limited to those blogs which are registered in the Pinoytopblogs and which were ranked in the top one hundred by the unique hits they received for the period between December 1-December 29, 2006.
Comparative analysis using vertical and horizontal analyses was done for the period July and December, 2006 in order to establish the changes in the trend. No correlation was made.
Presentation of the Data
The blogs used the same categorizations except for added hobbies, adult content blog, SEO, travels and expanding business to information category.Politics and news go together. While business and information blogs are those intended for a special group of people such as nurses, overseas workers and students. Philippines and Miscellaneous include blogs that are about the Philippines and other articles which are not concentrated on one topic. The presentation made use of the tabular form where data are broken down to numbers and analysed in percentages and percentage changes.

Table shows that the personal blogs continue to dwindle in numbers. From 39 in July 2006, the number was reduced to 12. It used to be 51 in 2005. The percentage change was a negative 62 per cent compared to July 2006 statistics.
Politics and news blogs decreased from fourteen to eight or a negative change of 43 per cent. Entertainment blogs still are the favorite; the number increased at a rate of 33 per cent or from nine blogs, it increased to twelve. The blogs that include entertainment news in their personal blogs among other topics are excluded from this category.
Cooking or food blog has increased by 300 per cent that is from one blog in July 2006, three more food blogs made it in top 100.
Business/Information blogs grew by 72 per cent or an increase from 11 to 19 blogs being included in the top one hundred.
Technology appears to have declined but in reality, the web/gadget that was originally included in this category is now under Hobbies and the IT matters that concern blogging is now classified under SEO. Although hobbies do not include favorite tech gadgets only so some of the blogs that deal with gadgetry are now classified under business/information.
Philippines/Miscellaneous posted an increase of 111 per cent. Some of these were personal weblogs that change the blog contents by incorporating a hodge podge of politics, entertainment, travel, food and other topics that they think may interest the readers.
The loss of personal blogs is the gain of this category.
Adult reflects a zero change but I have to clarify that it is not because there was none in July but it was classified under Miscellaneous. Other vulgar adult-themed blogs were scrapped from the blog.
Travel too was included in the miscellaneous in July since there was only one which made it in top 100.
The SEO oriented blogs are gaining popularity.
Next is the ranking of each category. This study is presented on installment basis.
