DOH Approved Herbal Medicines-Guava

Dear mouse,

There are 10 approved herbal medicines by the Philippine Department of Health (DOH) for the relief of various ailments.

Some of them have been used by my family as alternative medicines. Let me first discuss, guava, my favorite fruit.

Guavas are used for :
• Antiseptic, astringent & anthelminthic
• Kills bacteria, fungi and ameba
• Used to treat diarrhea in children
• For Hypertension, diabetes and Asthma
• Promotes menstruation

I did not know that it can treat hypertension, diabetes and ashtma–I could have eaten the leaves of the whole tree. Kidding aside, my mom used to wash our wounds and infections with boiled water with fresh guava leaves. The wounds dried fast. If I remember it right, we were made to chew leaves to prevent tooth decay.

If your brothers were “baptized” during summer in the backyard together with some 12 year olds, he must have a “prescription of boiled banana leaves after. hehehe

When I had a vacation in a province, I chanced to witness a childbirth by the hilot. The “hilot” (she was not a midwife) asked for boiled banana leaves for the “washing” of the mother.

The next day, I saw the mother who had just delivered a baby washing clothes in the nearby river.

I liked guava very much. I am fond of eating the small and the large variety. Lalo na pag galing sa ref at crisp talaga. Yum!

I also loved the guava jelly of Clara Ole. I always eat guava jelly sandwiches at 2am. Haha.

paborito ko rin yan silver, sa dami ng nakakain ko, pinagpapawisan ako pagdating sa bathroom.

alam mo bang ginagataan namin ang bayabas?

The Neem tree is supposed to be better than all of these herbs… check out “neem” on the internet.

  4. Cathy says:

    Bal,
thanks, this is just one of the herbs that i am going to present.

i checked neem, a pakistani and indian tree which is already used for commercial production of repellent, cosmetics and stuff.

  5. B. A. Looga says:

Sabi nila, wala daw dengue sa India dahil sa paggamit ng neem. Pero duda ko, kaya ayaw lumapit ang lamok sa kanila ay dahil sa “putok” nila sa kilikili… Ewangkolang!

  6. Cathy says:

hahahaha saka siguro dahil yong lamok ang natetepok sa dumi ng kanilang rivers.

  7. Lee says:

nyah??? pati dito nawala? yung comment ko kahapon— talagang magaling lalo pa vitC wag lang isama yung buto kainin at patay ka paglabas hahaha

  8. Cathy says:

    lee,
okay din naman huwag lang masyadong marami.
kaya nga pag ginataan namin ang bayabas, inaalis namin ang buto.
