Dear mouse,
This is the video from the photos of the house of Dr. JOSE RIZAL in Calamba, Laguna taken by Architect Cesar Aljama.
My blog about the Green House of Rizal and the mansion of George Washington was visited by no less that Dr. Ambeth Ocampo of the NHI who provided the link in his article explaining the “greening” of the house of our National Hero, Dr. Jose Rizal. Another commenter is a great granddaughter of the hero who informed the readers that the house is no longer a property of the Rizal Family.Other commenters are not in favor of the green paints. see for yourself the following photos as they apear in the video:
1. The exterior of the house of Jose Rizal which was painted green.
2. The grand staircase leading to the living room.
3. The main dining room
4. The bedroom of the Dr. Jose Rizal with the replica of his original bed. The bed is similar to the bed
in the mansion of George Washington which I visited in Mt. Vernon, Virginia.
5. Living room-many of these furnitures are still popular these days.
6. The capiz window
Ah I ove these capiz windows. They remind me of our old house.
7. The stockroom
The pantry of the olden days. In my grandmother’s house, this was where we kept the rice, sugar and other stuff that she bought on a monthly basis from the stores in an island accessible only by motor boat.
8. The kitchen
They did not have the conveniences of electricity or gas, so rich and poor alike, they used wood as fuel.
9. platera
This was a status symbol even today where our finest china and crystals are displayed…used only during special occasions and for special guests.
10. The Well
My grandfather build a more sophisticated source of water. Ow that was because there was a spring on the hill where their house stood. He used lots of bamboos as pipes to bring the water to flow to our kitchen. Ingenious.
The Ca t

im a calambeno, & i personally dont agree with the new color of the rizal shrine. it is not not just an ordinary historical site, it is the house of our national hero. it is supposed to look old since its an ancestral house made of bricks (which are supposed to be brown of red as clay pots) & not apple green like an ordinary house. if NHI is always commenting or even trying to sue singers who sung the national anthem differently i believe that whoever is responsible in the changing of the color of our national hero’s house should also have the same fate. i also believe that NHI being the protector of national treasures like rizal shrine should act on this blatant vandalism on the said historical shrine. tnx for your time.
