Dear mouse,

Before I continue with this part two, let me copy the supposed reasons why the students were pissed off by the principal from reyna elena’s blog.
1. First year students would not be able to experience the fun and joy the other year levels have experienced because there will be no more booths (ps2 booth, marriage booth, assassination booth, movie booth and others) on Foundation Day.
2. A certain Sir San Diego was removed from his position.
3. The electives became forced subjects. “Elective” was given depending on the section. If you belong to the top section then you are given a probably good elective, otherwise you will be given a hellish elective.
4. Kicked the sorry asses of the clubs goodbye.
5. Next on the kick list is the varsity trainings. She kicked their asses for them to have their trainings only on Saturdays.
6. Aside from that she also loves to put shit on the face of teachers in front of students. Her favorite time for doing so is during the flag ceremony every monday. Among those people who were subjected to the “shit on face ordeal” was Mr. Hope Toledo.
7. Another victim of her “shit on face ordeal” is Mrs. Leticia Lomibao one of the respected teachers in QCSHS. Dora simply said to her, “Mrs. Lomibao, I want the damn flag ceremony arranged! I want the prayer to be long! I want the students to keep their mouth shut during the ceremony! I want the ceremony clean!”
If these are the real reasons of the students, inmy opinion as a former school admin myself, someone has to tell them that three of these causes specifically 2,6 and 7 were not their own battle . The teachers can always fight for their own and should not use or influence the students to stand up for them.
When I was an assistant dean, I was dressed down by the Dean in the school’s corridor merely because I did not report to her office ASAP because I was still in my class. When I came down, I met her in the corridor and she started berating me in front of some students. Parang hinubaran ang pusa
and I was about to tell her that there are many ways to skin a cat.
My reaction was not to exchange words with her. I thought that she was not the one in order. So I just told her in her face that if she wanted to talk to me, I will be in the office and I left her with her mouth open in disbelief. Yon bang “about face, roll eyes and then walked away” ako. I did not take this up with students. I discouraged them from making any criticism and protest action about the dean. They were all scholars and I do not want to jeopardize their chance of getting a degree just because of my bruised ego.
The dean apologized. That’s one thing I liked with her…she knew when it was her fault but someone had to show her that she could not always intimidate people. Whenever she had issues with me, she talked to me in person.
What did I lose when I acted “insubordinately?”. I lost the chance of the promotion of being a dean. She relinquished the position to her friend and not to me. The faculty members complained that I was next in rank. I did not encourage the faculty for mass action. That was my battle and not theirs. Besides, I did not want some faculty to ask for a payback which I could never return. After one year, the appointed dean was removed…for money-making accusations. My name came up again. This time, I got the position. The faculty members recommended. That time I felt how it was to be an administrator, the mistakes that one should not commit like taking sides when there was conflict between faculty members and students and faculty versus faculty.
If it is between faculty and faculty, I gave them forks and knives. Not to hit each other, SILLY, but for them to eat with me while we were discussing the issues.
If they are not settled. Sige pabayaan ko silang magsaksakan with a warning that I do not want my carpet stained with blood not even with ketchup. mwehehehe.
The Death threat
The death threat did not come from the student. I will tell you, these students do not have the guts to make their threats public. And they don’t make death threats. Mahal ang bayad sa assassination. Mga 500 pesos kung walang kuwenta ang buhay ng papatayin. May sukli pa. Pag medyo celebrity siguro 5,000. Eh ang buhay ko noon wala pang halagang 50. hehehe.
I found out that just because the demonstrations of the students regarding some issues did not prosper because I had the habit of meeting the students and listening to their gripes, the faculty who I dismissed thru the recommendation of his department chairman was the one who sent the letter threatening me that I had only 30 days to live. Wow, hindi man lang niya hintaying maging 30 ako. nyahahaha.
Other threats came from some people who are afflicted what I discussed as DYKWIA syndrome.
Tipong hindi mo ako alam bakit di ka takot?
First they were insisting that I consider including his son in the list of those students who qualified in the accounting major . Who were they? Some malakas daw sa DOJ kaya puwede akong tulungan pag ako may kaso (lintek, gagawin pa akong corrupt) and one of the higher gods in our university.
I set the standards and they were asking me to disregard the standards just to accommodate his son who even tampered his classcard. Ano sila nababaliw?
I told the higher god, that she will find my resignation letter, first hour in the morning, if she will insist becoming a godmother to people who thought that they could always peddle their influence.
Barat ako, hindi ako kaagad bumibili.
The Ca t

who knows, baka justified naman reasons ng principal for nos. 1,4, and 5. Not counting the ones you pointed out. Pisay is a public school and it could be feeling the economic crunch if there is going to be a reduction of the budget. besides, these activities are not really that necessary or that they should be the school’s top priority. but then again, when you are young, things like these are big deal…
honey,
it is not pisay (philippine science high school), it is
quezon city science high school, the equivalent of manila science high school.
you’re right, there may be reasons why the principal
came up with the actions. Normally, a a committee is formed for this activity.
If there are issues, the principal or the administrator steps in.
Reaction on #2 – either Sir San Diego is removed because of bad behavior or meron nainsecure kasi favorite teacher sya ng lahat.
I am not too crazy about booths during high school or college foundation days because student force kapwa student to pay fines to let them go but removing them altogether is too much, k.j. kung baga.
yes on 2. even in the academe, the inggit and insecurities find roots among the educators.
hindi naman siguro lahat ng booths inalis. ito lang sigurong mga booths na ito. perhaps galing din sa ibang students ang mga complaints o kaya there were bad experiences in the past.
medyo mababaw nga the rest of the gripes kung tatanggalin mo yong mga sinabi mo Cat, like booths, electives, trainings. so, you may just be right.
reynz,
i was expecting their causes to be more on academic not the extracurricular.
They were admitted in that school because of their
intelligence and I expected that if ever there are injustice committed, it should have been academic-related.
the students are very idealistic. As i have said faculty members or teachers should not use the sympathy of students to fight for their cause.
These are not yet matured people. Their future depends on their finishing a degree and not on becoming a hero to save disgraced teachers who would not react when they’re intimidated.
With regards to the Electives, selective ba talaga these days? I remembered when all the Electives apply to all sections – walang distinction kung saan section ka napasok.
ang electives namin noon, lahat required mag-take. tinawag pang electives. :P
anyway, buhay pa naman ako til now and nothing bad happened because i was not able to take the electives i wanted.
C at, i stand corrected, quesay nga pala yun and not pisay.
idealism is ok so long as it does not impinge upon the rights of other people. but then again you can’t expect kids to know that. kahit nga hukluban na, hindi pa rin alam yan.
ang maganda dito, ang issue ng freedom of speech vs. libel. unlike brian gorrell’s blog, this blog seems to be based sa pinas and therefore, within the jurisdiction ng philippine laws ang blogger. maganda sana mag-file ng libel case ang principal para test case.
kitty,
ang pagkakaintindi ko sa electives ay mga subjects na pwedeng pamilian din.
honey,
pag ang kalse ay block system, which is true for science high school dahil limited and enrollment, yong mga electives ay naibibigay by block din to assure na may mabubuong klase.
nasaan na ang Good Manners and Right Conduct subject? sinulat ko nga doon kay RE yong 4 way test ng Rotary Club, di ba magandang foundation yon kahit in the age of the internet.
“Sometimes, I try to greet my old teachers but they ignore me. They have grown cold towards me. I can’t even focus in class,” a female student related. copied from this INQ article QC Science High actions vs blogging hit today’s edition Jan 24th
para sa mga students ang masasabi ko lang think not only twice but a hundred times before they say or write something on the internet, it will haunt them forever, if there is a problem sleep over it, the next day will be better rather than rushing to judgment and maligning school officials, I do understand you have freedom of expression, pero mas maigi kung meron School meeting, hindi thru internet blogging since you are not adults yet, you can ask guidance from Third Party such as Clergymen, medical professionals such as Psychiatrists specializing in young adults who are more level headed and can look at the problem on a different perspective
lcm,
pag may sulsol, parang apoy na lumalaki.
